Stewardship 2026 - Part 1. Starting Right as A Steward

Jan 4, 2026    Pastor Arthur J. James

This week's message invites us into a transformative understanding of stewardship that goes far beyond managing money—it's about recognizing our fundamental relationship with God as the ultimate owner of everything. Drawing from King David's prayer of thanksgiving in 1 Chronicles 29, we're challenged to see ourselves not as owners but as managers of God's resources. David's humility shines through as he acknowledges that his kingship, wealth, and power all came from God's hand. The message presents three essential keys for starting the year right as stewards: recognizing our role as managers rather than owners, reconnecting with the Master through prayer and fasting, and remembering to walk in obedience even when God's direction differs from our desires. What's particularly striking is David's response when God told him he couldn't build the temple—instead of rebellion, he donated 112 tons of gold to support Solomon's work. This teaches us that true stewardship means surrendering our plans to God's purposes. The call to fast and pray isn't just about dietary restrictions; it's about creating space to hear God's voice clearly and align our will with His. As we navigate 2026, we're reminded that every breath, every talent, every resource is on loan from God, and our greatest blessing isn't in accumulating more but in dwelling in His presence and following His direction faithfully.
