Increasing My Capacity

What does it mean to truly want more from God? Not more stuff, not more comfort, but more capacity to live, love, serve, and fulfill the purpose we were created for? Tucked inside the genealogies of 1 Chronicles chapter 4, we find a man named Jabez whose very name meant pain. He carried that label everywhere he went. Yet instead of letting his past define his future, he prayed one of the most bold and honest prayers in all of Scripture, asking God to bless him, expand his territory, remain with him in everything he did, and protect him from trouble. And God answered. This message draws us into that same kind of prayer, the kind that is not driven by greed or selfish ambition, but by a genuine desire to grow into everything God has called us to be. We are challenged to examine whether we have been living beneath our privileges, settling for just enough when God has so much more in store. The central insight here is that God does not withhold blessings to punish us. He withholds them at times because we have not yet developed the capacity to handle them. A blessing without capacity can break us rather than build us. When our motives are aligned with God's purposes, asking for more is not selfish. It is faithful.
