Walking In Confidence

Aug 2, 2026    Pastor Arthur J. James

What if the very thing holding us back from our God-given potential is not our circumstances, but the labels we have accepted about ourselves? Drawing from Philippians 1:6, this message reminds us that God finishes what he starts, and that includes the work he began in each of us. Through the stories of Moses, Gideon, and the twelve spies sent into the promised land, we see a pattern that is painfully familiar: people chosen by God who talked themselves out of their own calling. Moses called himself tongue-tied. Gideon called his clan the weakest and himself the least. Ten of the twelve spies looked at giants and called themselves grasshoppers. None of those labels came from God. They came from fear, comparison, and a distorted sense of identity. The message challenges us to examine the labels we have placed on ourselves and ask whether they reflect what God says about us or simply what our insecurities have convinced us to believe. When we understand that we are described in Scripture as God's masterpiece, created anew in Christ with good works prepared in advance for us, everything changes. Confidence is not arrogance. It is the natural result of knowing whose we are. This is a message for anyone who has ever felt too small, too weak, or too far behind to step into what God has called them to do.
