I've Got So Much to Be Thankful For

Nov 23, 2025    Pastor Arthur J. James

As we approach Thanksgiving week, we're reminded through Psalm 136 that gratitude isn't just a seasonal practice—it's a daily posture of the heart. This ancient hymn of thanksgiving repeats a powerful refrain 26 times: 'His faithful love endures forever.' What makes this message so transformative is the recognition that we serve a faithful God in an often faithless, challenging world. The psalm walks us through Israel's history, reminding them of captivity, deliverance, and provision—all anchored in God's unwavering faithfulness. We're challenged to recall our own victories when facing new battles, to remember that even in mundane moments, miracles are happening. When we wake up each morning, when we navigate difficult relationships, when finances are tight—God's faithful love is present. The beauty of this message is found in understanding that God's love isn't conditional on our perfection. Romans 5:8 reminds us that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. This means our gratitude isn't rooted in having everything figured out, but in knowing we're held by a God whose protection and provision are paramount. When we cultivate gratitude for what we have, it transforms our perspective—turning what we have into enough. This Thanksgiving, we're invited to shift from comparison to contentment, from complaint to praise, and to recognize that in every season, we truly have so much to be thankful for.
