The God Who Protects

May 3, 2026    Pastor Arthur J. James

In a world where uncertainty seems to be the only constant, we're reminded of a foundational truth that anchors our souls: God is not just a provider and guide, but a relentless protector. Drawing from Isaiah 54:17, we discover that while weapons will indeed be formed against us, they will not prosper. This isn't a promise of a life without battles, but rather an assurance that we don't fight alone. The message challenges our misconceptions about faith. Being a believer doesn't exempt us from burdens, bills, and betrayals. Instead, it equips us with divine protection that operates on three profound levels: God knows who to protect us from, how to protect us, and when to protect us. Throughout Scripture, from Jehoshaphat's victory over three nations to David's triumph over Goliath, we see this pattern repeated. God frustrates the plans of the wicked, hides us in the cleft of the rock, and provides 24-hour surveillance over our lives. The real revelation here is that many of our difficulties aren't always the devil's doing, sometimes they're our own decisions yet God still shows up. This truth invites us to examine where we've stepped outside of God's covering and to return to the secret place, the shelter of the Most High, where true protection resides. When we dwell there, things that burn others up only build us up.
